Section 35 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 empowers the Northern Ireland Policing Board, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State, to appoint the Chief Constable.
This section also empowers the Policing Board, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State and after consultation with the Chief Constable, to appoint other senior police officers (Deputy Chief Constable and Assistant Chief Constable rank) and senior civilian posts (Director of Human Resources and Director of Finance).
At present there are no senior officer vacancies within the PSNI.
