The Board has a statutory duty under section 3(3)(b)(ii) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 to monitor the performance of the PSNI in complying with the Human Rights Act 1998. It is the role of the Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee to carry out this monitoring work. The Committee is assisted in this task by Alyson Kilpatrick BL. Alyson was appointed as Human Rights Advisor to the Policing Board in January 2009 to advise the Board on how to meet its statutory duty under section 3(3)(b)(ii) of the 2000 Act.
