Recruitment

Members view PSNI police officer recruitment as one of the key successes within the PSNI change management programme and its progress is monitored by the Human Resources Committee.

Recruitment to the PSNI continues to be conducted under the principles of 50:50 so as to ensure a police service that is representative of the community it serves.  These arrangements are also in place for all recruitment of support staff for 6 or more posts.

The NIO is currently carrying out a consultation to make a judgement as to whether to continue with the temporary recruitment arrangements.  The consultation ends on 3 February 2011 and the paper can be found at www.nio.gov.uk/50_50_consultation.pdf

Future police officer recruitment plans are currently under consideration so that the necessary practical arrangements can be put in place for the next 5 - 10 years.
