Update on the suspension of Injury on Duty Awards percentage reviews - November 2010
In April 2010 the Home Office advised Police Authorities in England and Wales to suspend all reviews of injury on duty percentage awards due to a number of legal challenges. The Policing Board also received advice from the Department of Justice that we should also suspend reviews until the outcomes of the legal challenges have been announced and new guidance issued by the Home Office on the processing of injury on duty percentage reviews.
One of the legal challenges was a case of 'Laws' and the Home Office are still considering the content of the Court of Appeal decision in that case. The most recent information from the Home Office is that it is unlikely revised guidance will be issued before the end of December 2010. The earliest date that reviews could recommence would therefore be a date in January 2011 or February 2011.
The Board will continue to monitor the situation and will update the information on the website as developments occur.
