PENSIONS, INJURY ON DUTY AND ASSOCIATED BENEFITS

INTRODUCTION

Former police officers of the RUC/PSNI may apply to the Board for consideration of their possible entitlements to Retrospective Ill-Health Pensions, Injury on Duty Award or a Deferred Pension to be paid early.

Adult survivors of former RUC/PSNI police officers may also apply to be considered for an Adult Survivor’s Special or Augmented Award.  An adult survivor is considered to be a married or unmarried partner of the former police officer who satisfies the criteria contained in the New Police Pension Scheme Regulations 2006.

Application packs have now been placed on the Board’s website (www.nipolicingboard.org.uk) to enable former officers or their adult survivors to download the forms which need to be completed.  There is also a Pensions Guidance and Information Booklet which provides information on Ill-Health Pensions and Injury on Duty Awards.  This is also available on the Board’s website.

The following information provides details the forms which need to be completed and forwarded to the Board in respect of each of the categories of benefit that a former police officer or adult survivor wishes to be considered for by the Board.

As you may wish to forward additional information in support of any application being made and for security reasons, we would ask you to return your completed forms to the Board at the following address, either by post or hand delivered.  The forms should not be returned by fax or e-mail.

A.  RETROSPECTIVE ILL-HEALTH RETIREMENT PENSION / INJURY ON DUTY AWARD

If you are a former RUC/PSNI officer and you wish to apply for a retrospective ill-health pension award or an injury on duty award, you will need to complete the following application and consent forms and return to NIPB Police Administration Branch.

1.    Application for Retrospective Injury Award (Form RA1)

2.    Application for Retrospective Injury Award (Over 65 Years) (Form RA5)

3.    Capita Health Solutions – Information Sheet (CAP 1)

4.    Consent to Release of Medical Information to the Medical Adviser (Capita Health Solutions) – Occupational Health and Welfare Unit (CAP 2)

5.    Consent to Release of Medical Information to the Medical Adviser (Capita Health Solutions) – Family Doctor and/or Specialist(s) (CAP 3)

6.    Capita Health Solutions – Patient Information Sheet (CAP 4)

7.    Consent to Release Medical Information to the Policing Board’s Selected Medical Practitioners (Form 100)

8.    Retrospective Consent to Release Non-Medical Information to Capita Health Solutions (Form RA3)

B.  DEFERRED PENSION PAID EARLY DUE TO ILL-HEALTH

If you are a former RUC/PSNI officer and wish to apply to have your Deferred Pension Paid Early Due To Ill-Health, you will need to complete the following application and consent forms and return them to NIPB Police Administration Branch.

1.    Application for Deferred Pension (Form RA2)

C.  REVIEW OF INJURY ON DUTY AWARD

If you are a former RUC/PSNI officer and wish to apply to have your Injury on Duty Award reviewed, you will need to complete the following application and consent forms and return them to NIPB Police Administration Branch.

1.    Requested Percentage Disablement Review (Form PDR 2

7.    Percentage Disablement Review Consent to Release Non-Medical Information to Capita Health Solutions (Form PDR 3)

Please note – that if the Selected Medical Practitioner has stated that your Injury on Duty Award is to be reviewed, Police Administration Branch will send you a Disablement Review Information Sheet (Form PDR 1) and appropriate consent forms to complete when your Percentage Disablement is due for review.  You do not need to request these forms

If you are a former RUC/PSNI officer and you are unhappy with the Policing Board’s decision regarding a refusal of an Ill-health Retirement Pension and/or Injury on Duty Award and wish to appeal, you will need to complete the following application and consent forms and return to NIPB Police Administration Branch.

1.   Appellant’s Statement of Grounds of Appeal etc (Form Appeal 1)

2.    Medical Report Consent Form (Appeal) (Form Appeal 2)
