Peter Gilleece, Director of Policy
Policy Directorate provides Members and other branches with advice on, and analysis of, various PSNI policies or NIO initiatives and legislation which impact on the Policing Board or on the PSNI.
The Directorate also has specific responsibility for advising Policing Board Members on oversight of the PSNI and certain statutory Policing Board duties including monitoring the performance of PSNI in complying with the Human Rights Act, 1998.
Other responsibilities include:
- taking forward the outstanding recommendations arising from the Patten Report formerly handled by the Oversight Commissioner
- consideration of reports prepared by the Police Ombudsman and the Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJINI)
- monitoring and overseeing the research programme into Less Lethal Technologies
- monitoring professional standards within the PSNI in line the Code of Ethics
- monitoring trends and patterns in complaints made against the PSNI
- oversight role in relation to the transfer of responsibility for National Security Police Reform
