The Northern Ireland Policing Board has commenced the process to appoint a new Deputy Chief Constable for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) with the advertisement of the post.

Speaking about the role, Board Chair Anne Connolly said:

“This is a key role in the PSNI Service Executive Team and we are looking for an outstanding officer to support the Chief Constable. Leading on the management of performance, driving modernisation and change, and managing a diverse range of resources across the organisation will form part of the key duties for this position.

The Board is working with the Chief Constable to progress the next phase of organisational transformation and change within the PSNI.  We need a strong, resilient and inspiring Deputy Chief Constable who is capable of delivering excellence in policing, building relationships and working collaboratively and creatively with others to achieve the best outcomes for policing and the public it serves.

Effective policing is central to having a safe community. As a Policing Board representing the people of Northern Ireland, we are committed to making sure that the service delivered is accountable, fair, impartial and protects the rights of individuals and the community.

The demands on policing are changing and evolving and are becoming more complex in nature.  There is a need to explore new and innovative ways of working to drive the necessary future organisational change and development.  Whilst good progress has been made there is still a lot of work to do.

This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding senior officer to bring their wide ranging skills and experience to this pivotal position within the PSNI.”

The competition opens on Thursday 7 November 2019 and the closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 6 December 2019.
