Car parks and traffic

Parking offences have been de-criminalised for some years now and fall to the Department for Infrastructure for enforcement. Where no parking restrictions are in place and vehicles are causing a danger or obstruction to other road-users, then police officers can attend if it is drawn to our attention.  We have a number of available tactics, ranging from issue of Fixed Penalties to vehicle removal.

However where the parking is occurring off-road in designated car-parks, it is not normally the role of police to manage or monitor this behaviour. If a road safety concern is reported with vehicles egressing the site, we will attend and endeavour to assist. We may also bring the problem to the attention of the carpark owner and ask them to take whatever measures necessary to restrict or manage access to prevent a reoccurrence.
