To ask the Chief Constable; whether there are detection targets for Mobile Safety Cameras.

Speed Camera locations are determined in accordance with national guidance. Collision history is assessed; causation factors that indicate speed as a factor are considered and whether the topography of the site lends itself to camera van deployment.  Community Concern Programmes provide reassurance to local communities and significantly promote awareness of enforcement, especially in rural areas.  We care about the views of the local community, listening and responding proactively to their concerns by deploying safety camera vans to identified locations for short-term enforcement, regardless of the collision history. These Community Concern sites are analysed and graded according to the perceived risk to road users and deployment capability.

In relation to improving effectiveness, the Partnership will seek funding to improve technological capabilities, increase resources and footprint.  In addition, the benefits of a randomised deployment approach and the extent to which an unpredictable presence will increase effectiveness is under consideration.  Finally, an up-dated communication strategy is currently in development to advocate the necessity for enforcement and the benefits it brings.

The Chief Constable has placed an increased emphasis upon the effective policing of our road network, be it to improve road safety or deter and detect criminality.  The recent launch of our ANPR Interceptor Team will help to deliver against these objectives.
