Question

1) Number of police officers convicted of offences and still serving

2) Details of any PSNI penalties/warnings incurred

3) Whether those involved are still in, or available for, public facing duty

4) Duration of any times taken off public facing duty where applicable

Answer

During the past five years a total of 16 PSNI officers have been convicted of criminal and motoring offences, and continue to serve within the PSNI. In 5 of these cases the misconduct process has not yet concluded, and so the potential remains for these officers to be removed from the organisation.

2) Of those officers who remain within the PSNI following a conviction and conclusion of subsequent misconduct proceedings, the following misconduct sanctions were administered:

Final written warning x 1
Written warning x 3
Management action x 7

In all but one of these cases the convictions related to Road Traffic offences.

3) Each of those officers for whom the misconduct process has concluded are available for public facing duties. Of the 5 convicted officers for whom misconduct proceedings are still outstanding, 3 are currently suspended from duty, and 1 repositioned to alternate duties.

4) Of those officers mentioned under point 3, one officer has been repositioned for 925 days, with three officers suspended for an average of 442 days
