Question

What is the PSNI policy re awarding medals to civilian workers, particularly security staff such as G4S?

Answer

Medal awards for all police officers are laid out in Command papers from the Honours and Decorations Committee.

Eligibility criteria has recently been extended to include police staff for awards such as Police Service of Northern Ireland Service Medallion and Queens Platinum Jubilee Coin, if they meet the relevant criteria.

G4S, or other contracted staff within Police Service of Northern Ireland, are not employees of the Police Service and are therefore ineligible for such awards.
