Question

Given the PSNI’s admission that there was an error in the latest record of the number of strip searches in custody of children under-18, please confirm on how many occasions a strip search actually happened, that it was (a) conducted in a custody setting and (b) with an appropriate adult in attendance.

Answer

There were 271 strip searches of persons under 18 carried out, all of which were conducted in the custody setting. One included the presence of an appropriate adult and the remainder were classed as urgent and carried out without an appropriate adult in attendance.
