Regarding the theft of a laptop, radio and data sheet from an officer's private vehicle at Newtownabbey on 6 July, to ask the Chief Constable:

(i) on what date and at what exact time were the laptop and radio deactivated remotely
(ii) (ii) who authorised the deactivation
(iii) (iii) when should the Information Security Unit have been informed of the deactivation and
(iv) (iv) what grades of officer / police staff are empowered to order a deactivation.

Please also provide the protocol(s) / Service Instruction(s) that are relevant to this matter.

Answer

It is our understanding that these questions were addressed directly at the Special Board Meeting on 22 August 2023, and that Mr Nesbitt accepted the information sought will form part of the ongoing misconduct investigation, with the delay requiring an explanation from the officer concerned. Further engagement on this matter has the potential to risk prejudicing process.
