Board Committee Concerned at Disclosure Delays

The Board’s Performance Committee, who met today (15 January), have expressed concerns at PSNI’s continued delays in completing the disclosure process for several outstanding inquests.

Jonathan Craig MLA Chair of the Board’s Performance Committee said:

“There has been significant public commentary around the delays in PSNI disclosure of materials for inquest cases, particularly in relation to the Sean Brown case and the Stalker / Sampson cases. Following a hearing in the Coroner’s Court today, in relation to the murder of Sean Brown, Committee Members are becoming increasingly concerned regarding the lack of progress made by PSNI in this process.

It is imperative that adequate resources are put in place to progress these cases. The Committee will meet with the Chief Constable as a matter of priority to discuss the recent concerns raised by the Senior Coroner. The Committee is deeply disappointed that the deadline for the end of March 2015 has now been moved back and we will be seeking an explanation for this decision and a clear commitment as to when the PSNI will be completing the disclosure process. ”
