Policing Board Chair and Vice Chair Elected

Members of the Policing Board today elected Brendan Mullan as Chair of the Board and Mukesh Sharma as Vice Chair.   The appointments take effect from today 2 April 2026.

Taking up the position of Chair Brendan Mullan said:

I am honoured to have been elected as Board Chair in this the 25th anniversary year of the new policing arrangements.

Having served as a Member and as Vice Chair, I believe that the Board continues to set the standard for policing oversight through its wide ranging accountability and advocacy work, and is an essential part of the policing architecture here. It is a role that I and my Board colleagues take very seriously given the importance of policing in our community.

I am very much looking forward to progressing the Board’s programme of work with fellow Members, with the Chief Constable, and all those whose contribution can support and bring value to delivery of the policing service.

Welcoming appointment as Vice Chair Mukesh Sharma said.

“I very much look forward to supporting and working with the Chair in the time ahead. This special anniversary year provides an opportunity for us all to reflect on progress made over the last 25 years, and renew focus so that policing continues to meet the needs of the community going forward.

Ends.
