Statement on Chief Constable Appointment Process

At a special meeting of the Policing Board today, Members considered the Chief Constable appointment process following recent public commentary by political representatives. Board Chair Anne Connolly said:

“At today’s meeting, the Board considered legal advice obtained in relation to the Chief Constable appointment process following recent political commentary.

The Board’s primary concern is to progress a recruitment process that is based on the key principles of merit, fairness, openness and transparency.

The Board’s priority will be to move forward on the basis of equality of opportunity for all potential candidates with the competition completed by the end of June 2019.”
