Addressing exceptional levels of overtime and officers welfare

A small number of officers are deployed on high levels of overtime, but this is very much by exception.  Typically, such deployments reflect operational requirements and the use of specialist skills.  Deployments of this nature are largely pre-detailed and subject to audit verification.  For example, the overtime system generates a ‘High Earners Report’ which is subject to audit each month.

PSNI recognise that the deployment of an officer on high levels of overtime for prolonged periods is unsustainable.  This is a key consideration for line management and the welfare of officers is a priority.

This issue will be addressed under the revised terms of reference for the Overtime Steering Group.
