2. In the May 2025 PSNI Accountability Report it was confirmed that the police had settled 30 high value cases since 2018 in the sum of around £25m. Has an indicative assessment been undertaken of the financial liability that may arise to settle high value claims and discharge legal costs respectively in the 2025/6 and 2026/27?
Answer
1. The total number of pending conflict-related actions against PSNI as of 31 December 2025 was 1,207.
2. The current estimate of costs for settling high value claims is £1.8m for 2025/26 and £11.0m for 2026/27. It is important to note that there is significant uncertainty associated with these cases in relation to timing and amount, making actual costs difficult to predict.
