Question

In their response to the HMICFRS inspection report 2022-23, PSNI say that ‘A Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) problem profile has been commissioned with the support of Humberside and West Yorkshire Police. What does the work that has been commissioned entail? Does it include a wider risk assessment than PSNI carry out at present?

Answer

The Police Service of Northern Ireland have commissioned an analytical profile in relation to Child Criminal Exploitation. In order to complete this best practice has been sought across the UK which has included liaising with Intelligence Analysts within the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit to identify how other services measure and report on child exploitation.

The profile will enable the Police Service of Northern Ireland to gain an enhanced understanding of the scale and nature of the problem and will include for example, data on children who have been arrested, who are using drugs and alcohol and those who have been identified as members of organised crime groups. It will assist in identifying the highest harm victims, offenders and locations.

The profile will then be expanded to include partnership data.

The profile will be subject to regular review. It is not a risk assessment tool.
