Question
How many reported incidents of intimidation and related offences were reported in each of the last three years and the numbers where such occurrences were indicated to have included some form of paramilitary involvement?
Could the breakdown also indicate whether this was loyalist or dissident republican involvement and a breakdown by each hate strand?
Answer
Please find below the statistics on intimidation offences recorded by the police and the number of intimidation offences with a hate motivation.
| 2023/24 | 2024/25 | 2025/26 |
|---|---|---|---|
Intimidation | 440 | 343 | 233 |
Intimidation with: | 2023/24 | 2024/25 | 2025/26 |
|---|---|---|---|
Racist motivation | 13 | 20 | 19 |
Sectarian motivation | 35 | 15 | 19 |
Other strand of hate motivation 1 | 7 | 6 | 1 |
1.Sexual orientation, disability, faith/religion and transgender identity
Please note: a small number of intimidation offences have more than one hate motivation and therefore the total of motivations will add to more than the number of recorded intimidation offences with a hate motivation. The number of intimidation offences with one or more hate motivations across the three financial years 2023/24 to 2025/26 is 55, 37 and 38 respectively.
Details of paramilitary involvement do not form part of the police recorded crime data series and, therefore, we cannot provide figures to inform this aspect of the request.
