Question
Question on job sharing/ flexible working arrangements – it would be useful for ACO Duffield to provide a breakdown of officers vs staff who have a job share arrangement and to look at how this is communicated to be sure people know they can apply for it.
Answer
A total of 15 officers and staff are currently recorded on the HR system as having an approved job share arrangements.
There are a further 251 officers and staff recorded as having a reduced working
hour’s arrangement. There may be further individuals within this group that are job sharing but our records do not have this information.
However, some of those working reduced hours include:

- Detectives
- Justice Support Officers (Constables)
- Dispatchers (Constables)
- ICS roles
- Neighbourhood Police (to a lesser extent)
In addition, there are currently 950 Officers and Staff who have some formal flexible working arrangement in place across a wide range of roles.
Information on eligibility, the application process and the range of flexible working options is published on the PSNI intranet Point. The platform is accessible to all officers and staff across digital devices and common terminals at all times.
PSNI receives an average of 30 applications for flexible working from Officers and Staff on a monthly basis.
The Flexible Working Standard Operating procedure outlines the definitions,
parameters and availability of various types of Flexible Working:
- Full time flexible patterns included Compressed Hours.
- Term Time Working
- Annualised Hours
- Reduced Hours

All of the above Flexible Working arrangements are available to both Officers and Staff, subject to application, and approval process.
