Following the recruitment public campaign for new police officers earlier this year, can information be provided on;

1. The total number of individuals who completed the initial application; the breakdown of their community background and the number who identified as having a LGBT background. Can these figures also be set out in percentage terms of the total number of applicants?

2. The number of applicants deemed suitable to progress to the next stage by becoming student police officers. What percentage figure did this represent of the total number of applicants?

3. A breakdown in percentage terms of the community backgrounds of those applicants deemed suitable to progress to the next stage by becoming student police officers.

4. A breakdown in percentage terms of those applicants who identified as members of the LGBT background deemed suitable to progress to the next stage by becoming student police officers.

5. How many applicants have now successfully passed out of the college and been posted to a district and the breakdown in percentage terms of the community backgrounds of those applicants?

Answer

PSNI received 4,822 applications to our 2025 Student Officer Recruitment campaign. Equality analysis provided in the table below.

Community Background

As at 3rd December 2025, we have appointed 144 candidates to date from our 2025 recruitment campaign, representing 3% of total applicants.

Candidates from our 2025 recruitment campaign commenced training from August 2025 onwards therefore no candidates from this campaign have as yet completed the 22 week Student Officer training programme and attested.
