Question
In relation to the below (from LinkedIn) can I get a written response to the situation (or the article specifically) from the Chief Constable?
Answer
The Chief Constable wrote to Andy George to inform him that he was to return to PSNI in October 2025 following his 5 year secondment to NBPA.
It was initially a 3 year secondment and was extended by 2 years by Chief Constable Boutcher in 2023 on the understanding that it would not be extended beyond this.
The PSNI has made a significant contribution to the NBPA for five years. That has been reflected in operational discretion being exercised to allow for Andy to hold the voluntary position, supporting him fully and providing for all expenses including regular travel from Northern Ireland. It was made expressly clear when Mr Boutcher assumed the role of Chief Constable that within his discretion Andy would be returning to the PSNI on the 1st October 2025 following his decision to give him a further two year extension to his tenure.
After five years of supporting Andy as a full-time officer in the Association and fulfilling the role as President of the NBPA, we need him performing the important function of policing for the people of Northern Ireland.
There is much to do on challenging racism and advancing diversity in Northern Ireland and we are looking forward to Andy’s input and wisdom as part of the team in addressing these challenges.
