Police Pension Forfeiture

As part of the Board’s responsibilities under the Police Pension Regulations, there is provision for pension forfeiture.

Pension forfeiture allows a police officer’s pension to be reduced or revoked where they have been convicted of an offence committed in connection with their service as a member of a police service, which is certified by the Minister of Justice either to have been gravely injurious to the interests of the State or to be liable to lead to a serious loss of confidence in the public service.

The Board’s Resources Committee is responsible for considering and approving Police Pension Forfeiture cases.

The Board has an agreed procedure for such cases and this can be found in the Board’s Publication Section Police Pension Forfeiture Procedure | Northern Ireland Policing Board
